🔥 Look Ahead — Kyojuro Rengoku Drawing
Sometimes, a drawing isn’t just something you make.
Sometimes, it is a way of putting a feeling into colors, words, and lines.
This artwork is my drawing of Kyojuro Rengoku from Demon Slayer—a character whose strength, determination, and way of facing difficult moments inspired me to create this piece.
The idea behind the drawing
The main message of the artwork is:
LOOK AHEAD!
The words are about those moments when you feel disheartened or start believing that you aren’t doing enough.
There are times when we compare ourselves with others, feel like we’re falling behind, or become so focused on what went wrong that we forget to look at what is still ahead.
The message I wanted to capture was:
“If you are feeling disheartened, that you are somehow not enough, let your heart arise. Dry your eyes and look ahead!”
It is a reminder that feeling defeated doesn’t mean you actually are defeated.
Why Rengoku?
Rengoku is a particularly meaningful character for this artwork because of the way he faces adversity. He represents courage, determination, responsibility, and moving forward even when things are difficult. That is why the fiery colors surrounding him are so important.
The reds, oranges, and yellows aren’t just there because Rengoku is the Flame Hashira. They also represent the intensity of his spirit—the idea that even when someone is going through something painful, their inner fire can remain.
I wanted the drawing to capture both sides: strength and vulnerability.
Rengoku is powerful, but the artwork isn’t about pretending that strength means never struggling. It is about continuing forward despite the struggle.
The passage of time
Another major idea in the artwork is time.
The message says:
“The flow of time waits for no one.”
Time keeps moving whether we’re ready for it or not. Sometimes we want to stay in one moment. We want to change what happened, undo a mistake, or simply pause because we’re scared of what comes next.
But eventually, we have to move forward. And sometimes “moving forward” doesn’t mean making a huge change. Sometimes it simply means taking one more step.
Creating the artwork
I wanted this piece to combine art and words rather than relying only on the character drawing.
The bold lettering makes the message impossible to miss, while the handwritten sections make it feel more personal.
The flames around Rengoku were especially important because they connect directly to his identity as the Flame Hashira, while also representing the determination behind the message.
And yes, I couldn’t resist adding the tiny Rengoku-inspired characters at the bottom. 😂🔥
They make the otherwise intense artwork a little more playful.
How I made this?
Material used-
- A sketchbook paper (white)
- Alcohol markers (yellow, melon yellow, orange, red, navy blue, skin, black)
- Fine black pen
- A pencil to make sketch
What this drawing means to me
For me, this isn’t simply a drawing of Rengoku. It is a reminder.
A reminder that feeling lost doesn’t mean you’ve lost.
A reminder that being tired doesn’t mean you’re weak.
A reminder that the future doesn’t have to look like the past.
And most importantly, a reminder to look ahead.
We can’t always control what happens to us. We can’t always change what has already happened. But we can choose what we do with the next moment.
So whenever you feel like you’re somehow not enough, take a breath.
“Lift your head. Dry your eyes.
And—
LOOK AHEAD.”
